Why is the USA so far behind on Recycling and doing something about the Climate Crisis?
Everybody always talks about the USA being the smartest and best country in the world?
But what about those other countries already two steps ahead in many areas concerning our planet, and coming up with solutions, and following through with them? Why does it have to be almost too late for them to realize what's happening with our planet, and that the US is one of the biggest contributers to our crisis?
What can we do to get this country up to date, and to finally follow the rest of the world, and make an effort to change?
Thank you for your input.

When contemplating the climate crisis, how are you feeling, and how do you respond to those feelings?
This question is inspired by a previously posted question regarding global warming. I sensed feelings of being overwhelmed by the constant barrage of information the media has now chosen to pay attention to, yet sincere aspirations to address the very real threat posing life on this planet. My question really is how do we preserve our energy to face the difficulties and changes we know we need to make, without burning out, especially when our media and culture continuously promote pesimistic view points?

Are you doing your part to help stop the climate crisis?
I know we will probably fail in the mission unless the US and China agree to cut CO2 emissions, but do you feel you are doing your part, or could you be doing more?
Don't even bother denying global warming; it IS happening. Some may consider it a natural phenomenon, but we undoubtedly sped it up by about 2,000 years.

What do you think we should do to solve the climate crisis?
and if you don't know anything of whats going on and ask "what crisis?" I suggest you research because its not bad now but it will be in the next decade.
before you answer consider all the aspects. the greenhouse effect, the depleting ozone layer, the melting icecaps. and before you say its the sun, the sun will not be shedding an excess amount of solar energy as radiation or anything because the sun would have to be at a completely different cycle than it is now. I realize this is a highly debated topic but before any sides are taken please look at both sides of the argument and have thorough, well thought out answers. Even if you believe it is not happening now, you should know it will eventually[within the next decade at the very most] and consider all of humanity, not just the time period we are living in. and if you are researching the topic, site more than one resource. today, though sadly, no one piece of information on the internet can be completely trusted.
and also please consider that this is a climate shift, not global warming. I have not taken any sides so do not see me as a hypocrite if some revisions contradict.
wow, I've been adding a lot...thats because I keep remembering things though. Okay, one thing I had read in someone's post was that the sun is emitting more radiation. false. that is just an illusion. more radiation is getting through our depleted ozone layer. this is where you might want to research the greenhouse effect and then realize that global warming is part of the climate shift. I already wrote a paragraph about this in a question that was something like, "its freezing outside, are we not warming the planet enough?" I don't feel like copying it because if you really are concerned you will go there yourself. and only the people who care are probably reading these edits. oh well, time was wasted for good...
to answer 1 question, no I don't own a home. owning a home does not mean you are not environmentally sound. there are so many different ways you can cut down home emissions . keeping appliances off of stand by, buying energy efficient appliances, buying those light bulbs that cut down on energy cost and emissions. its a few extra bucks out of your pocket but whats it gonna matter? the energy efficiency will save you money and lower emissions. moneys not going to matter if our only inhabitable planet dies due to the ignorance an laziness of the human race. but there are people out there who see humans not as individuals or cultures, but see us all as the same race. we are humans, not mexicans or americans or africans, etc. we all are on the same planet and of the same race. therefore we should strive to continue our existence. humans do have their flaws but if we can overcome them than we will survive. you may say that if it doesn't happen in your time it doesn't matter, but it does.
we all need to realize that this isn't a political issue as well. Al Gore's movie was misleading in every aspect and I believe he is hypocritical to his movie. his movie lead people to believe that the climate shift is a political issue and nothing else. wake up. we may not be able to reverse the climate shift but if we can stop it soon we will be okay. politics and world leaders need to realize that we are a planet, not several countries. if we ever attain that status as a planet, all issues of now and the future would be demolished, even if it is only temporary. if the entire planet would work as a whole than we wouldn't have to worry. I wouldn't be here sitting at my computer trying to settle the argument among some people.
from here on I'm not going to add anything else. I'm just letting everyone know that I'm not voting anyone for best answer, I'll leave that to everyone else. after all, this was a survey.

Who benefits from a global climate crisis?
"Scientists who use climate change to explain environmental changes improve their chances of getting research grants from foundations, corporations -- and U.S. government programs that budget a whopping $6.5 billion for global warming in 2007. They also increase the likelihood of getting headlines and quotes in news stories: "Climate change threatens extinction of rare frogs, scientist says." Climate disaster skeptics face an uphill battle on grants, headlines, quotes and job security.
* Politicians can curry favor with activists who support re-election campaigns and higher aspirations; transform $14 billion in alternative energy pork into ethical planetary protection; and promote policies that otherwise would raise eyebrows."

If an economic crisis and a climate crisis hit at the same time...?
Just suppose the current financial 'troubles' in the USA lead to an economic crisis on the scale of the Great Depression, and suppose this coincided with major climate problems (even more severe than we now see). What do you think it would be like? Would it be like some science fiction novel? The collapse of civilization? Humans bonding together to save the planet? Something else?
Please, I'm not asking IF you think it will happen, but WHAT it would be like IF it happened.
